Troop Activities 2013-2014

The Patrol Leaders' Council is finalizing the 2013-2014 program.  Below are their planned activities for the year.  Events are pending Troop Committee approval. Look here for updates.

Camp Yawoog Pioneering/Ultimate Trip (Sep 20-22, 2013)

Picture
The Troop will be camping at Camp Yawgoog the weekend of Sept. 20-22.  Camp Yawgoog, located in Rockville, RI,  is the fourth oldest Boy Scout camp in America.  We'll be hosting Webelos Scouts for a weekend of Pioneering and Ultimate Frisbee!

BTW - for those of you who have seen the movie "Moonrise Kingdom", many of
the scenes were filmed at Camp Yawgoog.

MassJam 2013 (Oct 12-14, 2013)

Picture
Troop 17 will be taking part in MassJam to be held October 12-14 (Saturday to Monday) at
the Barnstable County Fairgrounds on Cape Cod.

MassJam is a pentennial (held every five years) event involving scouts from all around Massachusetts and Rhode Island - it's a regional Jamboree and they are expecting a few THOUSAND scouts to attend.  Some of the older scouts attended the last MassJam in 2008, but most boys only have one opportunity to attend during their scouting career.  There will be chances to meet other scouts, trade patches and take part in some scouting skills stations.  Action centers will include: Air rifles, archery, climbing walls, first aid, geocaching, robotics, and rocketry. Each action center will feature activities of varying challenge for all age groups.

On Columbus Day weekend, 2013 thousands of Scouts, Webelos, and Venturers from  Massachusetts and surrounding states will descend on the Barnstable Country fairgrounds in East Falmouth, Massachusetts for three days of Scouting fun, exhibits, challenging activities, competitions, entertainment, and fellowship.  Nine Massachusetts councils, and Narragansett Council in Rhode Island, with  support from the Barnstable County Fairgrounds, the town of Falmouth, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are participating in the planning of this event.
The first MassJam was held in 1985 at the Tewksbury State Hospital in Tewksbury,  MA. MassJam moved to its current home at the Barnstable County Fairgrounds in East Falmouth in 1993. Subsequent MassJams were held in 1999, 2004, and 2008.

Permission Slips and fees ($40) due by the Sept. 30  to Mr. Lucht
