Troop 17 Eagle Honor Roll
Congratulations to Troop 17's newest Eagle Scouts
Congratulations to Troop 17's newest Eagle Scouts, Ryan Johnson & Evan Gillogly. They passed their Boards of Review while working on staff at Hidden Valley Scout Ranch on the Griswold Scout Reservation in Gilmanton New Hampshire. Their Boards were unique, in that they were held at dusk in the picturesque setting of Hidden Valley's new council ring.
Ryan's project involved installing and replacing smoke detectors in his community of Rehoboth. He had to plan with the fire department to procure the smoke detectors, advertise across the community for signups and organize teams to go to the house to install the detectors. He installed over 70 smoke detectors, including some for homes with hearing-challenged residents.
Evan's project involved improvements to the Junior Varsity baseball field at Mansfield High School. Evan, a long time manager for the team, had noticed that several upgrades needed to be made to the field. The first was to install a fence to protect players on the third base dugout (which he discovered after witnessing a player get struck by a foul ball). His lead his team in constructing and placing new bat holders and benches in both dugouts, as the old benches were not sufficient to hold an entire team. He also lead his team in clearing brush on the first base side to provide better access to the dugout.
