Beal Island Kayaking Trip - May 13-15, 2011
Jumping off from the Appalachian Mountain Club's Knubble Bay property in Georgetown, Maine (near Bath), the troop kayaked to Beal Island. The island is also owned by the AMC, and allows only 30 campers at a time. We camped on the island (along with the porcupines), and explored the area in the morning. At noon we set out in the kayak fleet for a 10.8 mile paddle on Knubble and Sheepscot Bays. Along the way, we spied several nesting oprey, a bald eagle and more seals in the water (not more that 15 feet away) than we could count. After the paddle, we had a short campfire and a daring island rescue.
