Troop Activities 2014-2015

Here are our planned activities for the year.  Events are pending Troop Committee approval. Look here for updates.

Webelos Woods (Sep 26-28, 2014)

We are headed back to Camp Norse to host second-year Webelos, and show them how a Boy Scout Troop works.  The Troop will also hold a pioneering station for the enjoyment of all

Rock Climbing Quincy Quarries (Oct 17-19, 2014)

If you are looking for real adventure, the kind you see in Boy's Life magazine, then join us on our rock climbing trip.  We are heading to Quincy Quarries to do some climbing and rappelling under the tutelage of our own climbing expert, Mr. Archmabault.  He has assembled a team of climbing instructors to allow us to climb and rappel around the 75'-100' cliffs at the quarries.  This will be a trip you will remember for life!

Note: This trip will be a full weekend event.  We start on Friday evening, and will return at about 4pm on Sunday.

Camp Norse COPE trip (Nov 7-9, 2014)

We couldn't get enough of the Camp Norse COPE course last year, so we've decided to come back for a full weekend of Challenging Outdoor Personal Experiences.  We will learn teamwork, communications while navigating the low and high elements that the COPE course brings.  Do we need to mention the 300ft zip-line?

Winter Camping at Camp Norse (Jan. 24-26, 2013)

Heated cabins and plenty of winter fun are in store for the Troop, as we travel back to Annawon Council's home camp.  We'll concentrate on building the biggest friction bridge that we can, and throw in a little sledding and building of quinzees, if the snow permits.  If not, we will try our hand at throwing tomahawks!.

Troop Ski Trip (Feb. 7-8, 2014)

The Troop returns to Mt. Cranmore to ski, tube and coast the mountains.   We'll also get to try out the Alpine Swing (Weeeee!!!!).  Strap your helmet and skis on, and get ready for a great weekend!

Mt. Cardigan Hike (Feb 15-18, 2015)

Older Scouts will be braving the winter challenge of Mt. Cardigan.  They will snow shoe for two days on wintry Mt. Cardigan. They'll get to rest in the luxury of the AMC's High Cabin deep in the backwoods of the area. 

This Trip is for approved Star Scouts and above
Prior to the trip, there will be several mandatory events:
    Practice Hike #1 :Jan 18: 8am-noon
    Practice Hike #2: Feb 1: 8am-noon

Blinded Me with Science at Camp Squanto (Mar. 14-16, 2014)

If you like Mythbusters, then you will like this campout.  We will try amazing feats of science, including rockets and catapults.  Duct tape may also be involved. .

Geocaching at Treasure Valley (April 10-12, 2015)

We are off to Treasure Valley Scout Camp to us GPSs to find stuff (a.k.a., Geocaching).  We will camp in Adirondacks, and enjoy the scenery around the lake, while trying to find hidden treasures.


Acadia National Park Trip (May 29-31, 2015)

We would like the Moms of the troop to travel with us to Acadia National Park, near Bar Harbor, Maine to enjoy the many wonders of this National gem.  We'll spend some time hiking, perhaps to see the Nation's earliest sunrise, atop Cadillac Mountain.  We'll also check out Thunder Hole, and, perhaps, take a cruise aournd Bar Harbor, famous for its beautiful shores and abundance of bald eagles.!

Whitewater Rafting Trip (June 20-21, 2014)

We are whitewater rafting this June.  Are you ready to get wet and tackle the Kennebec River in Maine?  We will don wetsuits (likely) and brave the rapids of this fun river. You will not want to miss this adventure.
