Patrick Dalton earned his Eagle Scout rank after a lengthy audit of his qualifications at a Board of Review on August 15, 2018.
Somehow this active scout found time between being Lodge Chief for the Order of the Arrow's Tulpe Lodge (which has over 1000 members), working on Camp Staff at Camp Yawgoog, playing in Mansfield High School's Marching band and Percussion Ensemble, and being an active Senior at MHS to finish the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.
Patrick's project benefitted the Easton YMCA, where he & his team refurbished a garden making it a place of outdoor learning. for kids His team first hauled tons of dirt and peastone to make a suitable base for the area. To facilitate the work, they also had to move the existing (and massive) raised beds, as well. They then built benches, platforms, a trellis and outdoor chalkboards, so that the area would be an inviting space to help children learn about gardening.
Congratulations, Patrick, on achieving Boy Scouting's highest rank.

Jack's Eagle Scout Service Project was to create a play area for children at the Mansfield Municipal Airport. Jack created a wooden airplane for kids to explore while watching the real planes. His team also landscaped the are and put down mulch to make the area safe and welcoming.
Anthony and his team took to repairing planking in worn out bridges at the Mill Pond Dam. Much clearing of overgrown brush was required, before repairing the planking on the bridge. Those who use the area for recreation near the Canoe River and the Highway Department love the new, and safer access the upgraded bridges gives them.

Congratulations to Troop 17's newest Eagle Scouts, Ryan Johnson & Evan Gillogly. They passed their Boards of Review while working on staff at Hidden Valley Scout Ranch on the Griswold Scout Reservation in Gilmanton New Hampshire. Their Boards were unique, in that they were held at dusk in the picturesque setting of Hidden Valley's new council ring.
Ryan's project involved installing and replacing smoke detectors in his community of Rehoboth. He had to plan with the fire department to procure the smoke detectors, advertise across the community for signups and organize teams to go to the house to install the detectors. He installed over 70 smoke detectors, including some for homes with hearing-challenged residents.
Evan's project involved improvements to the Junior Varsity baseball field at Mansfield High School. Evan, a long time manager for the team, had noticed that several upgrades needed to be made to the field. The first was to install a fence to protect players on the third base dugout (which he discovered after witnessing a player get struck by a foul ball). His lead his team in constructing and placing new bat holders and benches in both dugouts, as the old benches were not sufficient to hold an entire team. He also lead his team in clearing brush on the first base side to provide better access to the dugout.

For his Eagle Project, Jack updated an outdoor classroom between the Robinson and Jordan/Jackson schools to be used by the elementary schools. He cleared trails, repaired existing seating and replaced an old blackboard with a new whiteboard/corkboard in a waterproof locking cabinet housing. Benches will be constructed and placed in theses observation points. He cleared the trails leading to observation points overlooking existing bird houses and a small vernal pool. He also installed signs describing native plants, Linnaeus taxonomy and animal tracks. Indoor and outdoor storage areas were also constructed for classroom resources

Tim Elofson and Michael Healy at the Annawon Council Eagle Court of Honor.
Tim & Mike become Troop 17's 65th and 66th Eagle Scouts!
Tim’s project was fostered from his brother’s idea to hold a flag retirement ceremony at the Mansfield Municipal Airport. Tim realized, after watching the first ceremony performed out of metal fire pits, that a permanent facility to retire flags would better serve our town. He lead a project to install a brick fire ring near the Airport’s new flag pole. He also laid pavers near the flagpole and landscaped the area. He also topped it with the heaviest steel fire pit cover the world has ever seen.
Mike’s project was an extension of his friend’s Chris McKay’s Eagle project to add street signs to Spring Brook cemetery. Mike met with cemetery officials, and determined that 16 more street signs were needed. Mike oversaw a crew that cut, routed out and painted lettering in the wooded street sign posts. Mike’s biggest challenge came when he discovered that Late Feburary ground tends to be tough to dig in around here. He figured out how to get the posts in the frozen ground, and visitors now have an easier time finding grave sites, thanks to him and his team.
In total Tim & Mike’s project consisted over 300 hours of service to our community.
