Tree Lot Sign-up - Nov 7

Where: Vestry of the Congregational Church
When: Monday Nov. 7 at 7pm
Today you can feel it in the air - the holiday season is approaching, and for Troop 17, that can mean only one thing -- the trees are on their way!  Actually, ours are likely still in the ground in Nova Scotia waiting for Mr. Wagner to harvest them, load them on the truck and send them to us for our annual Christmas Tree Sale!  Troop 17 has the honor of having operated for over 50 years in the same location in downtown Mansfield, and every year we have not only repeat customers, but many of them are former Troop 17 scouts who bring their children (and sometimes grandchildren) to buy their trees.  The Selectmen have deemed our sale a 'Mansfield Tradition'.  We could not have the successful program that we do without the support of every scout family in the troop.

To that end, there will be a parent's meeting at 7pm on Monday, November 7 for sign up for shifts at the Christmas Tree Lot.  Mrs. Christo will be running the process.  If you cannot attend, you may send a proxy or you can sign up for any open shifts after the 7th.

For those unfamiliar with the process, here are a few particulars:
  • Everyone sits around a table and the master sheet is circulated - each parent can sign up for one shift at a time.
  • Scouts (and parents) will be expected to sign up for three shifts of three hours each.
  • Please do not plan on working back-to-back shifts.  One in the morning and one in the evening is fine, but six hours straight is not a good idea.
  • This is not a fund raiser where the scouts can work alone - each scout must have a parent present with them when they come to work.
  • In addition to the three shifts, scouts should plan on working the Tree Lot set up on November 19 (more details to come), Tree Delivery on November 26 and Tree Lot tear down (after the holidays, dependent on weather).  If your scout cannot make any of these dates, please let Mr. Healy, Mr. Ham and I know as soon as possible.  Absences are excused for school and family events.
