Arrival (Sun. July 30 between 11:30 and 12:15pm)
You should plan to arrive at camp between 11:30 and 12:15pm. We cannot begin until EVERYONE has arrived!
Note: Scouts are expected to get to camp on their own. We will not be travelling as a troop. Since a scout is thrifty, we highly suggest carpooling.
There is a lot to do when we arrve on Sunday, and we need all scouts and adults present before check-in procedures can start. We recommend that you carpool to consolidate the number of vehicles that are coming to camp. The camps have little parking, and are trying to minimize the traffic impact at camp & throughout the town of Gilmanton. All vehicles must proceed to the parking lot. You are not allowed to stop along camp roads to unload.

Scouts are expected to hike their gear to campsites. Parents may help scouts carry their gear to the campsite. We ask, however, that parents not tarry in camp, and let their scout set up their own gear in their tents. If an item such as a trunk or large duffle bag is either too large or too heavy to carry, you may be place it behind our campsite sign (Saco) at Carter Lodge, and a camp vehicle will take it up to site. Note that any item left may not be available till after dinner. No personal vehicles are allowed on the campsite roads. After dropping gear off, Scouts should gather near our troop flag at the parade field in front of the Dining hall, where someone for the troop will greet you. Be sure to keep the items you will need Sunday (such as towel, water bottle, flashlight) with you in a daypack.
All gear (especially that dropped at Carter Lodge) should be clearly labeled with SCOUT NAME, TROOP 17 and the CAMPSITE, so that it may be properly identified.
Once your gear is at the site or Carter Lodge, find the Troop at the parade field in front of the Dining Hall. When we are all present, a tour guide will direct us through - Roster verification - issuing wristbands - check-in to campsite - medical re-check - Troop photo - swim tests - orientation at the Dining Hall - Tour of Camp and opening ceremonies.
Helpful Hints
1. Carry any necessary items in a day-pack, separate from your luggage. Carry this daypack with you each day.
2. For both Hidden Valley and Camp Bell campers, Scouts should arrive wearing their Class A uniform shirt and a swimsuit (or scout shorts with swimsuit underneath), and have a towel handy (in their daypack). Shortly after check-in, we will take a Troop photograph, then proceed directly to the waterfront for swim checks. Having a suit on will eliminate the need to change twice, and will speed us through check-in. Also carry a ziplock bag to hold the wet items, so that other stuff in your pack does not get wet.
3. Have your meds ready to submit to the nurse. Clearly label with a "T-17" on the top.
4. Don't forget a water bottle, sun protection, hat and raingear.
5. Because it may rain, and we are staying at a low level area of camp, we recommend packing in plastic, not fabric, containers. Trunks that fit under the cots are available at Target, Walmart & other stores.

Departure (Sat. August 5)
Closing Ceremony begins at 8:45am
Breakfast on Saturday morning is an open Continental Breakfast from 7:00 to 8:30am (for campers only). We need to be packed & ready to check out before 9:00am on Saturday. We urge (beg & plead) parents to arrive on time! Troop leaders cannnot leave till all scouts are picked up, and will be anxious to see their families.
A camp-wide closing ceremony begins at 8:45 am on the Parade Field near the Dining Hall. Families are encouraged to "stretch their legs" after the drive & join us for the ceremony. Dismissal immediately follows the ceremony. Please be careful of campers and traffic as you exit camp. Please me mindful of the speed in Gilmanton.
For Scouts Leaving Camp Early
Other than during Saturday check out, Campers must sign out at the Administration Building. Campers must notify Scoutmaster and Camp Administration prior to leaving camp. For campers to be released or picked up, a Pick -Up Authorization/permission Form must be properly filled out and signed by the parent. At the time of departure, an in-camp adult leader must be present to verify all records and adults involved are approved.
