Ice Climbing, Archery & Swimming, Oh My! (Jan 29-31, 2016)

6/7/2016

The Troop headed to Camp Sayre in Milton, MA to enjoy the winter program they had to offer.  Mr. Archambault headlined the activities by setting up a wonderful ice climbing course.  It was a bit difficult, as the ice was melting fast in the above freezing conditions.  It was a huge challenge, but not for first time camper Sebastian, who easily scaled the slick surface.  Besides the ice climbing, the scouts got to enjoy the indoor swimming pool (yes, swimming in January) and the other activities of the camp (Archery, pioneering, etc.)

Tulpe Lodge 102's First Ordeal (April 29-May 1, 2016)

Members of Troop 17 were part of OA history, as they took part in the new Tulpe Lodge 102's first Ordeal weekend. Tulpe Lodge 245 and Abnaki Lodge 102 combined to form the new Order of the Arrow lodge.

We welcomed 4 new Arrowmen, as Dhiren M. , Nathan A., Konnor B., and Noah G. completed their ordeal and became members in the Order of the Arrow. Josh G and Mr. Griffin sealed their membership in the OA by completing the Brotherhood trail. Anthony K and Mr Gillogly helped with the brotherhood trail, and Patrick D helped with the ordeal and the C-Team (keeping a steady beat).

Cheerful service was everywhere! Congrats to all!

We celebrated the achievements of our Scouts at the Spring Court of Honor on April 12. Besides the usual flurry of rank advancements, merit badges and recognitions, Dhiren M. was installed as our new SPL. We also welcomed his new Patrol Leaders Council. Our new Scouts were formally welcomed into the troop, and given the official Troop 17 neckerchiefs. We also enjoyed a video of the older scout's adventure on Mt Cardigan.

Mt. Cardigan Expedition (Feb 16-19, 2016)

As if climbing 3,156 ft. Mt Cardigan wasn't challenging enough, these guys did it backpacks and snowshoes! This year's expedition for senior Scouts brought some milder temps to the big granite rock near Orange, NH, but there was still plenty of icy fun.

Our Dec 21st meeting finished off a month of music exploration with a open mike night. It was a great night of live music and a little comedy. We knew our scouts were talented, but this showed another dimension of them.

On a frosty morning, the trees arrive from the great North. Scouts swarm, and it is over all too quickly. Scouts work great as a team!

Climbing at Crow's Hill (Oct 16-18, 2015)

Some brave scouts travelled to Leominster State Park to try their hand at climbing on natural rock. Under the capable supervision of Mr. Archambault and Mr. Griffin they were able to experience the thrill of bouldering, climbing and rappelling.
now, when it come to brave, those cliffs were 100 feet tall, and everyone conquered them. Now tell me Scouting isn't cool...

We were joined by the second year Webelos of Pack 13 at Camp Yawgoog (celebrating its 100th year) for a weekend of international intrigue. We enjoyed some pioneering by building a monkey bridge, played a great game of ultimate frisbee, ate some good food, and explored the camp on a moonlit night hike.
