Troop 17 ventured back to their home base, Camp Norse in Kingston, MA, to try their hands a Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience (i.e., C.O.P.E.). We found the course to be fun and, as promised, challenging. We will definitely be back to this one.

Picture 7000 Scouts encamped at Barnstable Fairgrounds, a stocked Scout store, dozens of activitiy stations, and a ton to see and do (like geocaching, blacksmithing, archery, etc.) , and you've got MassJam. The Troop camped in subcamp 4 during the Columbus day weekend. We travelled down to Camp Yawgoog for a weekend of pioneering and Ultimate Frisbee. The pioneering camp int he form of a catapult competition (Yes, even the adults joined in). Camp Yawgoog, located in Rockville, RI, is the fourth oldest Boy Scout camp in America. We'll be hosted Webelos Scouts from Pack 13 for the weekend, and hope that they had a great time! The Troop headed off to Hingham, MA to camp at Wompatuk State Park, which has four fantastic campsites that are free to Scout troops. We boarded the water taxi to Lovell's Island, and got to spend a few hours on the island before having to catch the return boat. The Troop headed off to Rutland, MA with our newly crossed-over Scouts. The new Scouts were taught some essential Scout skills by the older Scouts, while the rest of the Troop was busy building a Monkey Bridge and other activities. Everyone enjoyed the extensive trails found at Treasure Valley, as they participated in Patrol hikes. The adults particularly enjoyed the built-in 3-burner stove, but were a bit disappointed that the hot water heater (yes, a hot water heater in camp!) was not working The Mt. Cardigan Expedition, made up of older Scouts (approved Star & above), spent their time on Mt. Cardigan snowshoeing, sledding, exploring the summit, and just having a great time. Mr. Ham and Mr. Franklin led the group. |
