Tim Elofson & Mike Healy become Troop 17's 66th and 67th Eagle Scouts!
Their projects were almost polar opposites: Time dealt with fire, while Mike dealt with ice.
Tim’s project was fostered from his brother’s idea to hold a flag retirement ceremony at the Mansfield Municipal Airport. Tim realized, after watching the first ceremony performed out of metal fire pits, that a permanent facility to retire flags would better serve our town. He lead a project to install a brick fire ring near the Airport’s new flag pole. He also laid pavers near the flagpole and landscaped the area. He also topped it with the heaviest steel fire pit cover the world has ever seen.
Mike’s project was an extension of his friend’s Chris McKay’s Eagle project to add street signs to Spring Brook cemetery. Mike met with cemetery officials, and determined that 16 more street signs were needed. Mike oversaw a crew that cut, routed out and painted lettering in the wooded street sign posts. Mike’s biggest challenge came when he discovered that Late February ground tends to be tough to dig in around here. He figured out how to get the posts in the frozen ground, and visitors now have an easier time finding grave sites, thanks to him and his team.
In total Tim & Mike’s project consisted over 300 hours of service to our community.
