Harrison Kipp earned his Eagle Scout rank after completing his Board of Review on November 20, 2019.

Harrison's project benefitted the people of Mansfield by creating an inviting area around Woodside Pond, at Mansfield Crossing.  Harrison worked with the town's Conservation Commission to lay out his plan to place four benches and two picnic tables around the pond. His project certainly makes this underutilized resource more enjoyable for all.

Congratulations, Harrison, on achieving Scout BSA's highest rank.

Patrick Dalton earned his Eagle Scout rank after a lengthy audit of his qualifications at a Board of Review on August 15, 2018.

Somehow this active scout found time between being Lodge Chief for the Order of the Arrow's Tulpe Lodge (which has over 1000 members), working on Camp Staff at Camp Yawgoog, playing in Mansfield High School's Marching band and Percussion Ensemble, and being an active Senior at MHS to finish the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout.

Patrick's project benefitted the Easton YMCA, where he & his team refurbished a garden making it a place of outdoor learning. for kids His team first hauled tons of dirt and peastone to make a suitable base for the area.
To facilitate the work, they also had to move the existing (and massive) raised beds, as well. They then built benches, platforms, a trellis and outdoor chalkboards, so that the area would be an inviting space to help children learn about gardening.

Congratulations, Patrick, on achieving Boy Scouting's highest rank.

John "Jack" Corboy and Anthony Krouskos earned their Eagle Scout rank after a thorough review of qualifications at a Board of Review on August 15, 2018.

Jack's Eagle Scout Service Project was to create a play area for children at the Mansfield Municipal Airport.  Jack created a wooden airplane for kids to explore while watching the real planes.  His team also landscaped the are and put down mulch to make the area safe and welcoming.

Anthony and his team took to repairing planking in worn out bridges at the Mill Pond Dam.  Much clearing of overgrown brush was required, before repairing the planking on the bridge. Those who use the area for recreation near the Canoe River and the Highway Department love the new, and safer access the upgraded bridges gives them.

Congratulations, Jack & Anthony, on achieving Boy Scouting's highest rank.

Sean Burke earned his Eagle Scout wings after a Board of Review held in Attleboro on June 28, 2018.

Sean and his team helped to renovate the Marie F. Streese Memorial Conservation Area off of Ware Street.  They took to work, clearing the overgrown trails of that area, and repaired a bridge that helped walkers avoid a swampy area.  This project goes a long way to helping everyone enjoy trails that had become nearly impassible.

Congratulations, Sean, on achieving Boy Scouting's highest rank.

Curtis O'Regan became our troop's 82nd Eagle Scout rank on April 18, 2018.

Curtis proved that Eagle Scout Leadership Projects don't have to be local, as he did his project in the heartland of America in Dayton, Ohio.  Curtis and his team cleaned and restored headstones in the historic Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum.

Woodland is one of the nations five oldest rural garden cemeteries, and is the
final resting place of some famous people - Wilbur & Orville Wright, Erma Bombeck & Poet John Lawrence Dunbar.  Curtis's project will help to keep this national treasure available for others in the future.

Interestingly, former-Scoutmaster Mr. Gillogly's first hike as a Boy Scout (of Troop 85 in Beavercreek, Ohio) was to this very cemetery. Thanks, Curtis for helping keep old scouting memories alive!

Congratulations, Curtis, on achieving Boy Scouting's highest rank.

Josh Griffin earned his Eagle Scout rank after a thorough review of his qualifications at a Board of Review on Feb 28, 2018.  He also was awarded a Silver and a Bronze Eagle Palm for completing 20 merit badges more than the required 21.  That's 41 merit badges!!!

Josh's Eagle Scout Service Project benefitted the Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School, where Josh coordinated and led a team that renovated an outdoor classroom.  The project consisted of clearing thick (& thorny) brush, building wooden bench/desks and re-roofing a shelter. Along the way, the team had to deal with complications due to weather and active bee hives. This
project will do much to benefit the students and teachers at Southeastern!

Congratulations, Josh, on your great accomplishment.

Eagle Scout Dhiren Mistry  planned and carried out a benefit concert for Mansfield Food Pantry, Our Daily Bread, for his Eagle Scout Leadership project.  He took charge of the organizing all the bands, securing the site, advertisement and the actual carrying out of the concert.  Several bands performed to a crowd at Mansfield High School.  Entry to the concert was in the form of food or cash donations. The concert helped not only to directly benefit families in need, but also raised awareness of the Food Pantry.  Several hundred pounds of food was collected, and presented to the Food Pantry.

Stephen Healy achieved the rank of Eagle Scout after his successful Eagle Scout Board of Review on April 26, 2017.  He is shown here with Mr. John Newbury, Advancement Committee Chairman.

Stephen focused his efforts in helping out the homeless in our area by centering his Eagle Scout Leadership Project around making life better for the homeless.  Stephen lead a team that that improved a homeless day center, known as "The Haven", run by his beneficiary, Lynn Ministries.  His team collected furniture, as well as building pallet furniture to make the center a more welcoming place.  He lead those in advertising for the collection effort, and also collected donated office supplies to make the center function the best it can. He also constructed shelving to help store the supplies.

Three Eagle Scouts on one day - Joseph Cavanaugh, Kyle Svenson & RJ Shanteler

3/22/2017

In what may be a Troop 17 first, three scouts completed their boards of review for Eagle Scout on the same night!   Joseph Cavanaugh, Kyle Svenson and RJ Shanteler  , all from the same patrol, earned their Eagle Scout rank at Boards of Review at St. Mary's church in Norton on March 22, 2017.

Joseph Cavanaugh's project navigated the complexities of the town's Conservation Commission to prepare a walking trail in Memorial Park.  The project involved clearing nearly a half mile of brush (including poison ivy and thorny weeds) through some wetland area. The wetlands gave Joseph a first-hand look at the difficulty building in those areas.  His new walking trail will provide much enjoyment to those using the town's Council on Aging and the public library, as it links those areas to Memorial Park.

Kyle Svenson's project created a recreation area for the Mansfield Fish & Game Association. His team set up picnic tables, benches and a fire pit.  he Fish & Game Association encourages the development of archery, fishing and shooting skills, supports wildlife and open space conservation and provides youth programs and other outdoor recreation opportunities.

RJ Shanteler saw a problem at his place of worship, and tackled it.  RJ recognized that Temple Chayai Shalom in Easton had a storage issue, so he and his team built a storage shed and shelving to help.

Let's hear it for these three fine Eagle Scouts on achieving Scoutings' highest rank!
