Summer Camp Information for 2014

2/15/2014

Picture
We want all Scouts to get the most out of their Summer Camp experience!  With so many different offerings and exciting programs at Griswold Scout Reservation's (GSR's) Hidden Valley, we want everyone to be made aware of all their choices. There is truly something for everyone, and we are excited to be coming back to "The Land Made for Scouting".

As always, GSR continues to enhanced their program year-after-year, and this  this year with many new programs, merit badges and other offerings.   The GSR Guidebooks will give specifics on all programs.  Older Scouts should look to the SPOKE, COPE and Valley Voyager programs for a bigger challenge..

We are attending camp this year during week 6 (July 27 - August 2).  If Scouts wish to have more than one week of summer camp experiences, they may choose to attend camp as part of a provision troop.  Please see Mr. Gillogly or Mrs. Vickers, should a Scout be interested in any older Scout program or provision camp.

Please note that all registrations for summer camp activities (including provisional weeks) must be done though the Troop.  Please see Mr. Gillogly or Mrs. Vickers, if you have any questions.
New this year
An overhauled SPOKE program schedule and expansion to 11 different offerings (5 new):  Cit. in Nation MB, Cit. in World MB, MovieMaking MB, Personal Fitness MB, Photography MB, Search & Rescue MB, Welding MB, Griswold (Red) Trail Hike, Mack N’ Back Hike, Mountain Biking and Big Lake Winnipesaukee Kayaking!!!

White Mountain Vouager Weeks 1,3,5 & 7 and Valley Voyageur for Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8!

A new Welding Area to house 6-7 brand new Welding Stations for Welding MB!!!

Adding Pottery & Bugling MBs and returning Geocaching & Kayaking MBs to main camp!

The return of two separate weeks of SCUBA programs to GSR!!!

Hunter Education certification in conjunction with NH Fish & Game!

Reservation Recognitions added: GSR Hiking Award, Hidden Valley & GSR Award

We will be discussing summer camp program selections (to include Merit Badges, programs and afternoon activities) during upcoming troop meetings.

GSR Leader's Guide
This year, besides the usual Leader's Guide, the excellent Hidden Valley Staff has turned out a new Parent's Guide.

Summer Camp is just 5 months away, and the deadline for getting your medical forms in is just 3 months away.  Beat the rush, and schedule your Scouts' doctor's appointment for his annual physical now.

The Annual Health and Medical form is available on the Troop website (see Downloads).

A medical form is valid for 1 year.  For Summer camp, a valid form WITH DOCTOR'S SIGNATURE, is required.  The date of the signature must be valid through the length of camp (i.e., August 3, 2014).   Parts A, B & C must be completed.

Be prepared,  and get your med forms into Mrs. Christo as soon as possible.

Summer Camp Initial Deposits are due March 3

2/15/2014

Picture
For Summer camp, we are excited to be returning to the Griswold Scout Reservation's Hidden Valley.  The dates for this year's camp are July 27 (Sun.) - Aug 2 (Sat.)

Summer Camp sign-up and initial deposits of $50 will be due March 3.

The balance is due May 1. The projected cost per scout, for those who fulfilled tree lot duties, is $100.  The Troop Committee will finalize the total cost by their April meeting.

All deposits are non-refundable except in cases of family emergency or illness.

If you and your scout are still unsure whether or not he will be attending summer camp with the troop, you may register later, if space is available, for a late registration fee of $20 before May 1, $40 after May 1.

As always, hardship situations can be presented to troop leadership (either Jim Gillogly, Scoutmaster; Tara O'Regan, Troop Treasurer or Pam Vickers, Troop Committee Chair) and will be evaluated confidentially on a case by case basis.

Adults planning on attending should also fill out the form  (below) and submit the $50 deposit.  If you want to split the week (attend only a part of it), please make a note on the form of which days you are planning on attending and we will try to match you up with your 'other half' for the week.

Please send any questions to Mr. Gillogly and/or Mrs. Vickers, and we will answer them as quickly as we can.
