Despite school being closed, the Feb. 11 Troop meeting will be held as scheduled.
The PLC felt that this meeting was important, as it will allow visiting Webelos to see how a Troop meeting runs, as a requirement for their Arrow of Light award. Due to the storm and road closures, today's ski trip has been cancelled. Unfortunately, Mt Cranmore reports that they have no openings for quite some time, so, presently, there are no plans to reschedule. The Troop Committee will be forwarding information on the cancellation, as it relates to fees. Scouts, now might be a good time to do a good turn. Help out your neighbors (or parents) by helping clear out driveways, sidewalks and porches. Afterwards, maybe we could all catch up on a good movie? How about this one starring a diffferent kind of Nemo?
Stop by the Troop website's newest feature - the Fun Facts Blog.
The Blog will feature tidbits on Scouting, Troop 17 history and Scout Skills. As we build towards our 90th birthday celebration, this Blog will fill with all sorts of interesting factoids about our Troop. If you'd like to contribute anything, please send let Mr. Gillogly know. The Troop is carefully monitoring the forecasted storm and its effects on Saturday's ski trip.
Safety is our greatest concern, and we will be making a determination on courses of action at 11am Saturday. We will post any decisions on cancellations/delays/rescheduling on the troop website, by e-mail, FaceBook and Calling Post. Please stand by. Summer Camp sign-up and initial deposits of $50 will be due March 1. The balance is due May 1. The projected cost per scout, for those who fulfilled tree lot duties, is $100. The Troop Committee will finalize the total cost by March 15. All deposits are non-refundable except in cases of family emergency or illness. If you and your scout are still unsure whether or not he will be attending summer camp with the troop, you may register later if there is space available, for a late registration fee of $20 before May 1, $40 after May 1. As always, hardship situations can be presented to troop leadership (either Peter Ham, Scoutmaster; Jim Gillogly, Assistant Scoutmaster; Tara O'Regan, Troop Treasurer or Pam Vickers, Troop Committee Chair) and will be evaluated confidentially on a case by case basis. Adults planning on attending should also fill out the form (below) and submit the $50 deposit. If you want to split the week (attend only a part of it), please make a note on the form of which days you are planning on attending and we will try to match you up with your 'other half' for the week. Please send any questions to Mr. Ham, Mr. Gillogly and/or Mrs. Vickers, and we will answer them as quickly as we can.
For those attending the Ski Trip, please ensure that all of your information and forms have been turned into Mr. Hamilton by tomorrow's Troop Meeting/Court of Honor.
If you are missing information, Mr. Hamilton has already sent e-mails to you. At a minimum, height/ weight/ shoe size information and the Tubing release form must be turned in. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We don't want anyone sitting around waiting for equipment because of missing info. Please join us in honoring the boys on their accomplishments at a Court of Honor on Feb 4 at 7:30pm. The Court of Honor will be held in the sanctuary of the Congregational Church of Mansfield. Besides celebrating the Scouts' achievements, SPL and Patrol Leader elections will be held and announced. Each family should bring a treat to share, the troop will provide coffee and drinks. (You may drop your treat in the kitchen before heading up to the Court of Honor). |
